Consumer Law Update: Patton Boggs Bests Stroock, Chesler in AmEx case; Reed Smith, Mayer Brown Win for Sprint
Patton Boggs and several other firms successfully took on mandatory arbitration clauses companies use to keep customers from suing them in court. In California, though, a consumer effort to expand the right to file lawsuits failed to win over the state Supreme Court.

Davis Polk, Latham on Roche's Hostile Bid for Genenetch
It's a hot time for mergers in Big Pharma, and the Swiss giant Roche thinks it can buy the remaining 44 percent of Genentech it doesn't own for $2 billion less than the already controversial price ($42 billion) it offered in July.
