The American Lawyer 2011 Summer Associates Survey: Rational Exuberance?

Law students who spent the past summer working as associates at some of the nation's largest firms went into their jobs knowing the negative reputation that life at such firms can have. They ended the season believing that reputation isn't deserved--at least not where they worked.

Appeals Court Tosses 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' Challenge

Saying the matter was moot, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit on Thursday dismissed a constitutional challenge by the Log Cabin Republicans and their attorney, White & Case partner Daniel Woods, to the recently repealed ban on gay men and women serving openly in the military.

Anna Nicole Smith Makes Her Mark on Heller Bankruptcy Case

Eight firms, including Arnold & Porter, Cooley, Hogan Lovells, Pillsbury Winthrop, and Proskauer Rose have agreed to pay a combined total of $2.25 million to settle disputes with the estate of bankrupt Heller Ehrman. Eight others, citing a Supreme Court ruling in a case involving Smith, want their cases moved to federal district court.
